Thinking of You Week

At its core, Redback champions funny stuff and connection. This Thinking of You Week, why not harness the emotional power of funny cards to reach out to the important people in your life?

Sentimental, soppy cards certainly have their place; I’m sure we all can think of a relative who expects a flowery card with a poem on the front for their birthday. At Redback though, we think humour is the way forward.

Humour has a long history of clever philosophers writing and wondering about it throughout the centuries. Ted Cohen, the producer of Friends, says that he “needs the reassurance that this something inside me, the something that is tickled by a joke, is indeed something that constitutes an element of my humanity”. This observation is a little wordy, but we think it articulates the phenomenon of humour beautifully. What better way to connect with our fellow human beans (as the BFG would say) than through a well-timed joke and the ensuing belly laughter?

In this post-pandemic age of digital communication, contact with others has never been easier, but this doesn’t necessarily go hand in hand with connection. A Redback card on the other hand is a tangible (sometimes rude) message of love- Instagram DMs are all too easily lost amongst a wave of notifications. You can’t display a DM or use it to line an oft returned to keepsake box, a card however is capable of both things. Thinking of You Week is a chance to bridge the social distancing of recent years, and Redback has just the card for the job.

Thinking of You Week will take place between 19th and 25th of September- it was launched by the GCA in 2014 and is supported by Royal Mail, Co-op, Scribbler, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Clintons.
